How to download all attachments in Outlook at once
To download all attachments in Outlook from one email, click the arrow next to any attachment and choose Save All Attachments (classic Outlook) or click Download all above the attachment list (new Outlook and the web). For attachments spread across many emails, save the emails as .msg files and open each in SaveMail, which lists its attachments and downloads them as a ZIP in your browser, with nothing uploaded.
One email or many: pick the method
Outlook handles the single-email case well in every version. The multi-email case has no built-in command, which is why most answers online point to scripts or add-ins. The table lists what works without installing anything.
| Attachments in | Classic Outlook | New Outlook / web | Outlook for Mac |
|---|---|---|---|
| One email | Attachment arrow → Save All Attachments | Download all (ZIP) | Message → Attachments → Save All |
| Several emails | Select, open each, Save All; or drag to .msg files and extract | Download all per email; or Download the .eml files | Drag to .eml files and extract |
| Emails you have as .msg/.eml files | Drop on SaveMail → download all as ZIP, per message | ||
Have the email as a file (EML, MSG, MBOX)? Convert it to PDF in your browser: nothing is uploaded.
Download all attachments in Outlook from one email (classic Outlook)
- Select the email in the list or open it.
- In the attachment bar under the subject, click the down arrow on any attachment.
- Choose Save All Attachments. A list appears with every file checked.
- Click OK, pick a folder, and click OK again. Outlook writes the files with their original names.
The same command is under File → Save Attachments when the message is open. If an attachment is missing from the list, it is probably an inline image, which Outlook treats as part of the body; right-click the picture → Save as Picture to get it.
New Outlook and Outlook on the web: Download all
- Open the email in the reading pane.
- Above the attachment tiles, click Download all. One attachment shows a download arrow on hover instead.
- The browser saves a ZIP named after the subject. Extract it where you need the files.
Download all appears only when a message has two or more attachments. Organizations can disable attachment downloads by policy; if the arrow is missing on every message, that is why.
Download attachments from multiple emails in Outlook
There is no "save attachments from the selected 40 emails" button in any Outlook. The practical route turns the emails into files first, because a .msg or .eml file carries its attachments inside it.
- Create a folder on disk. In classic Outlook, select the emails (sort by the attachment column to find them quickly, or search
hasattachments:yes) and drag them into the folder. One .msg file per email. New Outlook and the web give .eml files through More actions → Download; Outlook for Mac writes .eml on drag. - Open savemail.app and drop the first file. The message renders with its headers and an attachment list showing names and sizes.
- Click download all to get a ZIP of that email's attachments, or download them one by one. Repeat per file.
Everything runs in the browser tab with the File API; no file is uploaded and no account is created, which matters when the attachments are invoices or client documents. SaveMail processes one message at a time, so a folder of 300 emails is 300 drops; very large attachments inside a .msg take a few seconds to extract. If you also want a readable copy of each email, press Save as PDF on the same page; the save email with attachments guide shows how to keep PDF and files together.
Outlook for Mac
Open the message and choose Message → Attachments → Save All, or click the attachment and choose Save All from its menu. For many emails, drag them to a Finder folder as .eml files and extract attachments from each as described above. Dragging an attachment icon from the message straight to the desktop also works for one file at a time.
Related questions: reply all with attachments, emails plus attachments
- Reply all keeps no attachments. Outlook strips them on reply by design; use Forward, which keeps them, then add the recipients. Add-ins that add a "reply all with attachments" button exist for classic Outlook and Outlook 365.
- Download all emails and attachments together: the .msg or .eml file is exactly that, one email with its attachments inside. The export guide covers folders and whole mailboxes.
- Attachments blocked by Outlook (file types such as .exe, .js) cannot be saved from any version; ask the sender to zip them.

It appears only when the message has at least two attachments, and administrators can disable attachment downloads by policy.
